laboratory for targeted drug delivery & personalized medicine technologies

ABOUT US

Our research group is aimed at improving patients’ quality of life and bettering their treatment by developing innovative medical technologies. Specifically, we focus on targeting metastatic cancer with nanotechnology, and on constructing miniature medical devices that couple diagnosis to therapy (theranostic devices). Our lab is headed by Dr Avi Schroeder, who has years of experience in nanotechnology and personalized medicine.

Dr. Avi Schroeder has translational experience with the development of liposome-based clinical systems.  He is the author of scientific papers in the field of nanotechnology and medicine. Schroeder is the inventor on 14 patents, and recipient of 20 national and international innovation awards. Dr. Schroeder is a scientific-entrepreneur, starting 5 successful Technion spin-outs.

OUR TEAM

Avi Schroeder
Avi Schroeder

Avi received all three degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Ben-Gurion University. His postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2012). At MIT, Avi and colleagues developed nanoparticles that are capable of autonomously synthesizing proteins upon signal, thereby being a platform for on-site delivery of drugs and preventing damage to healthy organs. In our lab, Avi is building an expert team to work towards improved personalized and targeted medicine.

Janna Shainsky
Janna Shainsky

Janna received her B.Sc. in Biotechnology and Food Engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (2007)... She completed her PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Ayelet Fishman in the same department. Her research focused on production of valuable chiral sulfoxides using oxidizing enzymes. Janna joined Dr. Schroeder’s group and serves as a lab director and senior scientist, involved in many projects in the lab.

Jeny Shklover
Jeny Shklover

Jeny received BA, MSc and PhD from the Technion. During her PhD obtained under the supervision of Dr. Estee Kurant, she focused on processes involved in dead cells removal at the embryonic central nervous system. In her postdoc at Griffiths lab in UCDAVIS she investigated different aspects of endothelial cells recellularization of xenogeneic scaffolds and development of a novel antigen removal method. Jeny joined Schroeder group in 2019 and serves as lab manager and senior scientist.

Hilla Korach Rechtman
Hilla Korach Rechtman

Hila received her PhD in Biotechnology and Food engineering in 2018. Her PhD focused on the effects of genetics, nutrition, and carriage to pathogenic antibiotic-resistant bacteria on the microbiome, under the supervision of Prof. Yechezkel Kashi. In her postdoc, she managed the development of a prediction method for food spoilage combining big data and hyper-spectral imaging. Hila joined the lab in 2020 and is leading a team developing an oral delivery system in a “food as medicine” approach.

Hanan Abumanhal
